A ancient technique of typography would be dies and seals. Typo is Greek meaning to strike, that by which something is symbolized, figured, or printed. Currency is created with typography. It covers all aspects of handwriting, caligraphy, and graffiti. You can use your letter design on posters, signs, and billboards.
Typography is important because it gives you the art tool of arranging type, type design, and layout. It has spread from labels on apparel to digitally appearing on web pages, mobile phones, and video games. Designers wanted to separate the structure (formatting) of a Web page from its presentation. This has caused the <font> rule to be left behind in favor of using Cascading Style Sheets. Eliminating extra code that clutters the structure of rules that makes the web pag.CSS gives you control and flexible formatting with the ablitity to use it on many pages.

4. What is a font family?
A font family is a group of variations, known as styles, on a single font.
5. Define the following:
a. x-height-is normally the standard height of the lowercase letters. The line at the top is the x-height line or mean line, and the line at the bottom is called the baseline.
b. baseline-is the line at the bottom where letters rest on and align. Some letters have descenders that hang below the line.
c. ascenders- are the lowercase letters that have a part go above the x-height.
d. descenders-are the lowercase letters that have a part go below the baseline.
e. leading-is the vertical space between two lines of type, higher amounts put more space between and promotes readability. The lower leading amount the more the line of type will be squeezed and overlap the letters.
f. kerning-is the space between each letter. Farther apart letters help readability, but kerning can only affect one letter at a time. This will likely be time consuming.
g. tracking-is the spacing between all letters in a line. Unlike kerning, tracking can reset the document spacing all at once.
h. scale-is used to reset the height and width of your text, but not your spacing. Vertical scale is used to stretch (up) or flatten (down) the text; horizontal scale is used to pull or push the text left and right.
6. What is the difference between serif and sans serif? Demonstrate by naming a serif font and a sans-serif font.
Serif are fonts that have tails at the end of the strokes like Times New Roman, Mono, and Georgia.
Arial, Verdana, and Helvetica are examples of Sans Serif fonts without tails at the end of the letter or number.
